Erik Halterman said Willson Contreras remains a buy-low even after his recent tear. Contreras opened the year in a horrific 12-game slump (.102 AVG, 41 % K-rate) while learning first-base duties, but since April 10 he has slugged .327 with an 18 % strikeout rate, six homers, and even two steals. The lull still drags his full-season numbers down to a .255 AVG and .763 OPS—his worst marks in three and five seasons respectively—so many managers still see a 33-year-old in decline. Halterman argued that if Contreras had merely hit .200 instead of .102 in those first 12 games, he would sit at .288 today and be untouchable in trades. The underlying rebound in contact quality plus catcher eligibility makes him an under-priced upgrade in season-long formats before the market fully catches up.
