Davis Mattek labeled Dalton Schultz a ‘major loser’ after Houston added three more wideouts—Stefon Diggs, Tee Higgins and rookie Jermaine Noel—plus veteran Christian Kirk. Mattek argued that Schultz’s already pedestrian efficiency cratered in 2024 and a 59-635-5 line from 2023 is no longer attainable with so many mouths to feed. He pointed to Mike Clay’s 2025 projection of just 49 catches, 526 yards and 2 TDs (a TE24 finish) as a realistic outcome and warned that fourth-round rookie Cade Stover could flat-out steal the job. Mattek called Schultz’s routes ‘empty calorie volume’ that offers little week-winning upside and advised skipping him outside of Stroud double-stacks, preferring Pat Freiermuth or Cade Otton, who project for similar yardage but more touchdowns and cleaner depth-chart paths.
