Chris Raybon said Tyquan Thornton is the likeliest candidate to seize the Raiders’ vacant perimeter X role and become their No. 2 wide-out behind Jacoby Myers. Raybon cited multiple camp reports that Thornton has been running with the starters while Myers is kicking inside on three-wide sets and Trey Tucker holds the opposite boundary spot. Tucker logged a 90 percent route rate last year, so Raybon expects the trio to stay on the field together. Thornton’s 6-2 frame and vertical speed remind Raybon of Alec Pierce or Marquez Valdes-Scantling—receivers who can disappear for stretches but pop for multi-TD spike weeks. With Geno Smith and Aidan O’Connell both willing to attack deep via play-action, Raybon believes Thornton can stumble into 4-6 touchdowns and string together best-ball-friendly splash plays at a near-undrafted ADP. He has faded rookie Jack Besh for now, noting similar underneath skill overlap with Brock Bowers and Myers that limits Besh’s path to snaps.
