Kenny G labeled Detroit his “dog of the day” at +128 in Philadelphia. The Tigers have ripped off four straight wins and just swept Arizona while averaging 8.5 runs during that stretch; their offense now sits 5th in MLB in runs and 7th in slugging. Jack Flaherty (6-10, 4.51 ERA) is coming off six shutout innings against Toronto and has logged five straight solid outings. Detroit is 28-25 on the road and a league-best 31-22 to the over away from Comerica. Kenny contrasted that with a Phillies club that has lost two of three to the White Sox, owns a shaky 4.45 bullpen ERA, and has scored only 3, 6, 2, and 3 runs in four of its last six. Ranger Suarez’s overall line (8-4, 2.59 ERA) looks strong, but Kenny pointed to recent wobble versus the Angels and the fact he’ll eventually hand the ball to that suspect pen. With both pens leaking oil Kenny said the Over 8 is defensible, but he prefers the Tigers moneyline because Detroit’s red-hot lineup and Flaherty’s ceiling create value against a slumping Philadelphia squad.
